External microprocessor controller unit. The separation insures that the sensitive electronics of the temperature control unit are protected from corrosive chemicals and fumes. The COD controller contains a special program for fulfilling the time/temperature specifications of the ISO 6060 procedure. When the COD Mode is activated, the heating block is heated to a temperature 20 °C above the required target temperature. After the samples are inserted into the heating block, a blinking light in the actual temperature display indicates that the actual temperature of the block will be maintained at 20 °C above the target temperature for a further six minutes. This “pre-charging” of the heating block with additional heat insures that, when the cool samples are introduced, these samples will be brought to the required temperature of 148 ± 3 °C well within the required 10 minutes. Four digital display windows make it easy to input the desired entries. The target temperature, actual temperature, total heating time and remaining heating time are always simultaneously displayed. Built-in safety devices will shut the heating block off in the event of short circuit or loss of contact to the temperature sensor.
